St. Patty's Day fun

I just love St. Patrick's Day! You can tell from my last post how much I try to squeeze in to this holiday because there are so many great activities out there.

Here is another fabulous craft by Erica Bohrer. It's part of her St. Patrick's Day LepreCommon Core pack. I especially love how this integrates math. It's perfect because we were working on fact families this week. You can find this activity here. This pack is filled with awesome activities and they are all common core aligned!

We've done a few activities from my St. Patty's Day pack. The sentence sort was particularly challenging this time. My students did this one for morning work, but I ended up taking a small group to redo it so we could go through each one. This was so beneficial for them. We discussed every single sentence strip and talked about why it was or wasn't a sentence. I also use the Pot of Words for morning work (real or nonsense). I use the sentence writing for an assessment. They know I'm looking for capitals, periods, and complete sentences at the very least. We choose one sentence to share with the class. I tell them to look for one that was descriptive or had a strong verb. The other activities were done during guided reading groups.  Next week we'll do a few more since the actual holiday is on a Saturday.

During Daily 5, they wrote leprechaun stories in their notebooks. This was was adorable! We studied Jan Brett last month and she used Hedgie as a character! Love this! I used a content rubric to grade these stories. It's from my writing rubrics megapack.
Here's a closeup of the story:

We also made this class book. They had to write a sentence about what they would like to find at the end of the rainbow. There are some cute ideas. I especially like this first one (a dog with no fur that he isn't allergic to).  SO cute!

This printable is available at Edhelper. I love Edhelper! I use it mostly for math worksheets.

I'm also have a flash sale at my stores.
March centers and St. Patrick's Day packs are both 20% today.

It looks like you have some pretty great writers in your class, too.

    1. Thanks Barbara! We're getting there with writing. You know how it is, there are many different levels of writers in first grade. We have fun as we grow though! :)
