February Literacy Centers for first and second grade

Can you believe it's already February?! February is always such a busy month with all the holidays and special events (Valentine's Day, Groundhog Day, President's Day, 100th Day, Black History Month, Dental Health). As teachers, we are jam packed with things to do. I never get to everything I want to do during the month of February. How about you all?

One thing I always do is February literacy centers during reading workshop. I've updated the February literacy menu and created a 2nd grade version. The 1st/2nd COMBO is also available.

Here's a quick preview:

  1. February is such a busy month! My favorite activity is reading aloud stories for each event! I read about our 100th Day, Groundhog's Day, and coming up I will be reading stories about Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, Presidents' Day, and Dental Health Month! Hoping to win! I don't have February yet!

  3. My favorite thing to do in February is to go away for a night or two with my fiancé. It's the only time we go away, just the two of us and its an annual tradition since we've been together. ;-)

  8. I actually like Groundhog Day for some reason...no food associated with it, no decorating to do, and you can tie in lots of non-fiction, too!

  17. Sarah, I haven't bought your February literacy centers yet, so I really hope I can win it. Personally I love President's Day because it's a 3-day weekend. In the classroom I love to watch my 1st graders assemble their Valentine's mailboxes. They get so creative!

  18. Thank you all for your comments! I loved reading about your favorite things to do during February. Well, my son Shawn chose a number between 1 and 17. He chose 13, or as he says "sirteen". So that means that the 13th commenter, Elizabeth is the winner! I'll email you the pack Elizabeth. Congratulations! :)
